BEYOND TRADITIONAL PSYCHOTHERAPY: DR. NANCY ERB, LSCW, and NEURO EMOTIONAL TECHNIQUE
Throughout the evolution of my traditional psychotherapy techniques, I was always curious why some patients improved while others didn’t. In my profession, colleagues reasoned that patients who didn’t improve had inadequate practitioners or a lack of motivation or even an unwillingness to “get better”. I felt that kind of reasoning was simply too limited.
I’d learned that feelings were “physical in nature” which helps account for psychosomatic illness (when our thoughts make us sick) . My training in social work and psychology didn’t focus on the fact that feelings were chemicals that rode on neuron receptors throughout our bodies. Yet this fact made me curious about holistic practices and if there were other answers for my patients.
The holistic doctors I met understood and accepted concepts about our emotional and mental states being tied to our feelings and even thoughts of spirituality. This study led to my certification in Reiki, an energetic healing modality where I also incorporate the use of my knowledge of meridians, chakras and energy healing.
Later I added N.E.T (neuro emotional technique) to my practice consisting of traditional “talk” therapy and personal coaching coupled with these other healing modalities. N.E.T therapy encompasses testing for emotional, nutritional, allergy and physical components.
HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
Therapy sessions are typically one hour with the first session devoted to an initial intake. Thereafter, depending on the patients goals and treatment plan, the sessions are often weekly and can often incorporate a combination of the above methodologies.
Through this process, usually between one to six months, patients report immediate improvement as they see themselves reacting differently to stressors, thinking differently about their situations and finding various doors of opportunity presenting themselves. During these sessions patients begin releasing “internal baggage” and deepening their core strength. When clinically indicated, patients are referred to other practitioners such as nutritionists, chiropractors, dentists, or similar.
Along with colleagues Douglas Economy, Dr Sharon Lee Rasa and Dr. Jeff Oras, DMD, we’ve combined treatment modalities into our Multiple Kinetic Systems (MKS) approach so patients have access to this fully integrative treatment, when a deeper level of healing is needed.
WHAT PATIENTS EXPERIENCE
Patients report incredible gains in healing from this approach, often reporting immediate relief and a sense of well being by the time they leave their treatment.
If patients need to unravel deeper, long-held issues, we conduct therapy over a period of time which patients comment; “Is like peeling off layers of the onion”.
COMMON HEALING GOALS
Dr. Erb’s unique combination of psychotherapy and other modalities of treatment can help anyone feeling “stuck” or unable to complete their goal. The most common quests for patients are reported as:
“I want to feel less depressed or anxious”
“My children are leaving for college. I feel lonely”
“I was in an accident. I am afraid to go out and get hurt again”.
“I keep attracting the ‘wrong’ kind of guy”.
“I get really angry all the time”.
These are just a few of the complex issues we have in our culture today. If you’d like to explore treatment, you are invited to contact us at MKS.
